Helping individuals facing divorce see, anticipate, understand and navigate their path to stability
Shaped by personal experience, we provide people with the space, foresight and skills they need to be prepared for and navigate the choices and processes that come with divorce confidently
Our Story
Every decision we make is shaped by a clear sense of purpose. Our journey has been anything but ordinary. Through every step, we've focused on staying true to our values and making space for thoughtful, lasting work.
What began as a passion project has evolved into something more. We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead.
Who’s behind The Pattern Project?
The Pattern Project was founded by Meriel Sanchez-Cordero and Denise Gershbein.
Meriel Sanchez-Cordero
“Informed by my professional background in critical care nursing, healthcare and medical technology, divorce coaching, and my lived experience of navigating a prolonged high-conflict divorce”
Meriel used an extensive career in healthcare across both high-acuity clinical care and commercial roles in the medical device world to develop The Pattern Project’s overarching philosophy and assessment tools. Meriel credits her prior experience in teaching her a simple, but important lesson she has carried forward to The Pattern Project: the presenting problem is rarely the real one, and you have to dig to find the root cause. High-conflict divorce isn’t really about the divorce. It’s about high-conflict personalities, including manipulation and coercive control, and the lasting impact of sustained trauma. My own experience of that journey showed me how much more is involved than a legal event, with many stakeholders and unforeseen factors, much like a complex clinical case.
Denise Gershbein
“Knowing what I know now, I would have had more foresight and understood the consequences of everything. My mission is for families to come out on the other side in a better place”
Denise has a background in product design and strategy alongside being trained in human-centred thinking. This means she’s always thinking ‘person-first’, and has a passion for understanding their roadblocks, what will move them forwards and where are the tradeoffs they need to make - ultimately to design better experiences - whether that’s in her past roles in healthcare, or in the divorce space. Following her own divorce, she has applied her professional skillset and personal experience to help shape The Pattern Project’s Assessment Tool and its wider frameworks used to help people navigate the complexities of the divorce process. She wants every individual going through divorce to have greater foresight and an understanding of the consequences of each decision and action.
